Track and field: 5 Brazilians fail doping tests ahead of worlds

Associated Press

SAO PAULO — Five Brazilians preparing for this month’s track and field world championships in Berlin have failed doping tests. Three of them competed at last summer’s Olympics.

Brazil’s track and field federation Tuesday said the five are: Bruno Lins Tenorio de Barros, Jorge Celio da Rocha Sena, Josiane da Silva Tito, Luciana Franca and Lucimara Silvestre. Their “adverse results” were from out-of-competition tests by the federation on June 15.
The athletes were already in Germany and have requested their B samples be tested. They are returning to Brazil to present their defense.
Barros helped Brazil finish fourth in the 400-meter relay in Beijing last year. Silvestre competed in the women’s heptathlon and Tito was in the women’s 1,600 relay.
