‘Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit’ opens new MVT season
Manoa Valley Theatre will launch its 2009-10 season with music and laughter as Gerard Alessandrini’s “Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit” takes the stage from Sept. 3-20. The house will be set in MVT’s popular cabaret seating, with cocktail service.
For more than 25 years Alessandrini has been tickling off-Broadway’s funny bone with his spoofs of show tunes, characters, personalities and plots of Broadway musicals in his award-winning Forbidden Broadway series of parodies. MVT has developed a close working relationship with the playwright and now, with the personal assistance of Alessandrini, no big-name production is safe as MVT's “FB: SVU” takes on such notables as “Jersey Boys,” “Mamma Mia,” “South Pacific (2008 revival),” “Mary Poppins,” “The Lion King” and”Wicked” among others.
New this season, MVT has moved its opening night to Thursdays and added a Saturday matinee. Show times are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m. Tickets are $35. Seniors and military are admitted for $30; patrons 25 and under for $20. Call 988-6131 or purchase tickets online at manoavalleytheatre.com. Tickets are also available at all military ticket outlets.
The “FB: SVU” ensemble cast are Kelly Fitzgerald, Jack Galliano, Kenji Higashihama, Tricia Marciel and Guy Merola. Guest director is Elitei Tatafu Jr., guest music director is Kenji Higashihama; guest choreographer is Katherine L. Jones.
