Track and field: 3 Brazilian athletes suspended for 2 years

Associated Press

SAO PAULO — Three Brazilian track and field athletes have been suspended for two years after testing positive for the banned endurance-booster EPO.

The country’s federation says Bruno Lins Tenorio de Barros, Jorge Celio da Rocha Sena and Lucimara Silvestre waived their rights to have their backup samples examined. The suspensions run until June 14, 2011.
Two others — Josiane da Silva Tito and Luciana Franca — also failed doping tests before the upcoming world championships in Berlin. They have not said if they will ask for their “B” samples to be tested.
Barros ran in the 400-meter relay at the Beijing Olympics last summer. Silvestre competed in the women’s heptathlon and Tito was in the women’s 1,600 relay.
