Disney's "High School Musical" franchise may be finished, but it's not forgotten. Just ask the scores of tweenage girls who still dream of Troy Bolton, hunky teenage captain of the basketball team at the fictional East High School where "High School Musical" movies take place.
"High School Musical," the popular made-for-Disney-television film that became the Disney Channel's most successful original movie ever, spawned a television sequel, a theatrical sequel and a few stage adaptations, including one that — brace yourselves, little Gabriella wannabes — will be live in Honolulu on Saturday at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
"High School Musical Summer Celebration: The Concert" is a montage of musical highlights from all three "High School Musical" movies.
"This is the only 'High School Musical' stage show that combines the dances and songs of all the movies into one show," said Ashton Frederick, 23, who plays the role of piano player and music composer Kelsi. "It's a big celebration of the wonderful music, and we take a look back at some of our favorite moments from the movies, like when Troy met Gabriella."
The musical, which was written by Peter Barsocchini, who also wrote all three movies, features more than 15 songs and a cast of performers portraying popular East High characters, including Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Sharpay, Chad, Taylor and Kelsi.
Among the songs that will be performed live during the show are "We're All in This Together" from "High School Musical," "Fabulous" from "High School Musical 2" and "Can I Have This Dance" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."
"High School Musical Summer Celebration: The Concert" makes its Honolulu stop before continuing on to the West Coast.
