Man, 45, gets 20 years for raping woman
A 45-year-old Lahaina man on Tuesday was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a woman in February at a park.
Alexander Ayau Wilsey had pleaded no contest to a charge of first-degree sexual assault. Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza issued the sentence.
"He showed her no mercy," Deputy Prosecutor Andrew Martin said in court Tuesday. "He should receive no mercy today."
The victim, who knows Wilsey, reported that he had picked her up in Lahaina on Feb. 5 and drove to a dirt road leading to a beach near Launiupoko Park about 11 p.m. She said she had asked to be taken home but Wilsey got a knife from the glove compartment, cut off her shorts, then held the knife against her throat as he raped her.
Later, she said, Wilsey drove back toward Lahaina and let her out by the side of a road.
In exchange for Wilsey's plea to the sexual assault charge, the prosecution dismissed a kidnapping charge.
"I have a problem," Wilsey said in court Tuesday. "I didn't address it or didn't realize it until something really bad happened. I have a real big problem with alcohol. I'm really sorry about everything."
According to court records, Wilsey's criminal history includes 33 convictions, including those for first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and abuse.
