An Army Reserve major has been sentenced to five years probation for sending hundreds of harassing e-mails to the commander of 25th Infantry Division.

Debra Lynn Smith was also ordered by a federal judge to perform 200 hours of community service. Smith was also allowed to serve her sentence in Overland Park, Kansas, where she is living.

Smith admitted sending e-mails to Maj. Gen. Robert Caslen, seeking his help regarding her involuntary separation status with the Army.

Caslen was the deputy director for the war on terrorism for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time when the e-mails started in April 2006.

Smith admitted sending Caslen more than 750 e-mails a 14-month span. She also sent more than 500 e-mails after she was warned not to contact the general.
