Hilo juniors fall in final, 3-0

Grant Martinez and Cody Erickson teamed on a four-hitter as Scottsdale, Ariz. defeated Hilo, 3-0, yesterday in the championship game of the Little League Juniors (ages 13-14) Western Regional at Aliso Viejo, Calif.
Kean Wong batted 2 for 4, and Quintin Torres-Costa doubled for Hilo, which finished 5-2 in the tournament.

Joshua Nobriga pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Central East Maui beat Cedar City, Utah, 4-0, yesterday in the Little League Majors (ages 11-12) Western Regional at San Bernardino, Calif.
Chazz Ishikawa had two hits and an RBI, and Noah Apolo hit a solo homer for Central Maui (1-2), which plays Loomis, Calif. (3-0) today at 9:30 a.m. (Hawai'i time).

BEAUCHAN COMPETES
Punahou graduate Brittany Beauchan, a junior at UCLA, finished among the top 30 at the U.S. Open Championships last week in Federal Way, Wash.
Beauchan competed in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke. Her time of 2:33.98 in the 200 would have ranked 16th, with Katlin Freeman winning in 2:22.51.
In the 100, Beauchan finished with the 27th-best time, 1:11.30. Jessica Hardy won the final in 1:04.45.
Beauchan competed in the 100 at last year's Olympic Trials.
