Portuguese Man of War count, stings on Oahu reported

Hanauma Bay was closed today because of a high number of Portuguese Man-of-War spotted by lifeguards on the beach and in near-shore waters.
The Honolulu Emergency Services Department’s, Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division’s Portuguese Man-Of-War sting count ending at 2:30 p.m. today is as follows:
Total of 15 Man-Of-War found in Waikiki
Lifeguards treated 20 people for stings in Waikiki
Zero Man-Of-War found at Ala Moana Beach
Lifeguards treated no one for stings at Ala Moana Beach Park
In excess of 2,000 Man-Of-War found at Hanauma Bay
Lifeguards treated no one for stings at Hanauma Bay (area was closed)
Zero Man-Of-War found at Sandy Beach
Lifeguards treated no one for stings at Sandy Beach
Zero Man-Of-War found at Makapu'u
Lifeguards treated five people for stings at Makapu'u
Zero Man-Of-War found at Sherwood's
Lifeguards treated two people for stings at Sherwood's
Zero Man-Of-War found at Waimanalo Beach Park
Lifeguards treated 30 people for stings at Waimanalo Beach Park
Zero Man-Of-War found at Kailua Beach
Lifeguards treated 45 people for stings at Kailua Beach.
None of the people that were stung needed attention from the city's Emergency Medical Services Division nor did they need to be hospitalized.
The Portuguese Man-Of-War influx is not associated with the monthly box jellyfish influx that is anticipated to begin tomorrow.
Lifeguards will assess the situation early tomorrow morning in regards to both the Man-Of-War and box jellyfish influx and make a decision to keep Hanauma Bay closed or reopen it to the public.
