The 'Iolani School Dramatic Players will hold a Rummage Sale Extravaganza on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Ala Wai Elementary School cafeteria. Students hope to raise money for a trip to Scotland in August 2010 to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world's largest theater festival. Honolulu YMCA hosts Hiroshima youth during world peace exchange program
YMCA of Honolulu hosted eight students from Hiroshima, Japan, from July 26 to Aug. 7, as part of an annual international student exchange program focused on world peace. The students joined their Honolulu counterparts in a variety of cultural activities that included visits to Hawai'i's Plantation Village, the Polynesian Cultural Center and YMCA Camp Erdman. New sign for Leilehua made possible through mentorship program grant
Leilehua High School's 40-year-old sign was recently replaced through a mentoring program of Big Brothers Big Sisters in partnership with Actus Lend Lease.
The sign's replacement was made possible through a grant written by Actus Lend Lease for the community service that the "Littles" and "Bigs" in the program completed. Additional funding for the sign was received through the Actus Lend Lease community fund. Read more at www.myadvertiser.com/wahiawa.

Pearl Harbor Shipyard removes tons of tires from harbor, improves navigation
Eighty Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard workers removed a decades-old floating barrier of tires from the waterfront from July 29 to Aug. 3. The removal of the tires was part of the shipyard's ongoing waterfront transformation effort and resulted in 21.2 tons of old tires being pulled out of the water. Help spread aloha overseas with care package donation at Windward Mall
Operation Homefront of Hawai'i will hold a collection drive to fill its annual Aloha Holiday Care Packages Sept. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. at Windward Mall. Local goodies such as Kona coffee, mochi crunch, macadamia nuts, crack seed, cookies, cuttlefish, University of Hawai'i logo wear, Hawai'i calendars, slippers and small holiday decorations are requested. Youths awarded scholarships from Valley of Rainbows
Thirty-three youths were awarded scholarships from Valley of Rainbows at the Wai'anae Coast Sunset on the Beach last weekend. The awards, paid to the agency or school, will help students with their school, sports, cultural and educational activities.
