Maui golfer wins in Portland

Haiku, Maui's Justin Keiley won medalist honors and Hawai'i finished second in the team standings at the Eddie Hogan Cup yesterday at Portland, Ore.
Keiley shot a 70 yesterday to finish at 3-under 141 at the Riverside Golf and Country Club.
He finished two strokes ahead of three golfers, including Honolulu's Bradley Shigezawa (73—143).
Kapolei's Thomas Yamashita tied for 14th with a 149, and Honolulu's Brett Komoto tied for 37th at 156.
British Columbia won the team competition with an even-par 432.
Hawai'i finished a stroke back and Northern California was third at 439.
Only the top three individuals counted toward the team standings.
There were 12 teams in the tournament, which pits junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada. The top three invididuals and top three teams received medals.
MAUI'S CHIARELLA WINS HSJGA EVENT
Makawao's Alex Chiarella shot a 69 to win the boys 15-18 age division by five strokes in the Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association Junior Tour Series yesterday at the Makalei Golf Club.
Chiarella finished the 36-hole tournament with a 142. Runner-up Aaron Kunitomo of Lahaina shot 72—174.
Other winners were: Kailua's PJ Samiere (boys 13-14, 152); Hilo's Nani Yanagi (girls 13-14, 165); Honolulu's Jino Sohn (boys 11-12, 158); Kahului's Justin Ngan (boys 9-10, 157); Kahului's Kristeena Locke (girls 9-10, 176) and Hilo's Christian Yanagi (boys 7-8, 183).

HAWAI'I PACIFIC ADDS 3 LOCAL PREP PLAYERS
The Hawai'i Pacific University softball team added three local prep players for the upcoming season.
Kamehameha's Melissa Awa, Kalaheo's Caira Pires and Baldwin's Malia Killam will play for the Sea Warriors in the 2010 season.
Awa earned all-state honors her junior and senior years, and helped Kamehameha to the 2008 state title. He will be a utility player, according to HPU head coach Bryan Nakasone.
Pires earned All-O'ahu Interscholastic Association honors in each of her four seasons with Kalaheo, including an All-State selection her sophomore year. She played primarily at third base.
Killam was a catcher for Baldwin. She earned All-Maui Interscholastic League honors twice.
