12 arrested for DUI on Big Island last week
Big Island police have arrested 12 motorists for drunk driving from last Tuesday to yesterday where five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
There have been 853 DUI arrests this year compared with 881 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.3 percent.
The total number of arrests per district this year are:
Hamakua: 3
North Hilo: 2
South Hilo: 272
Puna: 105
Ka'u: 30
Kona: 354
South Kohala: 68
North Kohala: 18
There have been 983 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,136 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.5 percent.
So far this year, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 15 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.7 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
