Honolulu firefighters have contained a wildfire that has burned about 40 acres of old sugarcane land near the Pearl City Industrial Park.
The fire was reported at about 1:25 yesterday afternoon. Five engines, three tankers and two helicopters were dispatched to battle the blaze, said Capt. Terry Seelig, HFD spokesman.
Seelig said no structures or property were threatened by the fire. He said firefighters contained the blaze at about 3 p.m. and were expected to be at the scene until about 5 p.m.
The cause of yesterday’s fire is under investigation. Seelig said several other fires have been reported in that general area over the past few weeks and investigators have determined that some of the blazes were deliberately set.
He asked that if anyone has information on any of the fires to call police.
