Community can help 'Adopt a School' in Hawaii

Advertiser Staff

The Ala Moana Jaycees and Jaycees in Hawaii are planning an Adopt-A-School Day on Oct. 11.

Adopt-A-School Day is when the community joins together to support Hawaii’s schools. Participating organizations will select a school and discuss how they might provide help on that designated day.
A kickoff event will be held at Ala Moana Center’s Centerstage at 6 p.m. on Sept. 19. The program will include presentations to participating organizations and sponsors, performances from Hawaii’s youth and an appearance from schools superintendent Pat Hamamoto.
In its second year, Adopt-A-School Day is a statewide initiative to cope with the lack of funding and to ensure that schools receive help. Last year, Hawaii Jaycees helped schools in the form of donations, mentoring programs and campus beautification projects.
This year, Adopt-A-School Day is open to organizations and volunteers with the purpose of mobilizing the community in service to Hawaii’s schools.
