Woman in critical condition following early morning crash in Kahuku
A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash on Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku.
According to police, the woman was driving a pickup truck headed northwest at 2:50 a.m. when the truck crossed the center line and crashed into a telephone pole. The truck then veered back to the other side of the road and crashed into a guard rail.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck through the passenger-side window.
She was taken in critical condition to a local trauma center.
There were no other occupants in the truck.
Police said the roadway was wet and speed and alcohol were factors.
The highway was closed in both directions for three hours while police conducted their investigation.
