Tropical Storm Hilda packing 40-mph winds
Staff and News Reports
The eighth named storm of the Pacific hurricane season has formed far out in the Pacific but is not expected to strengthen over the next few days, the National Hurricane Center in Miami says.
Tropical Storm Hilda had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph at 5 p.m. today.
It was about 1,175 miles east-southeast of Hilo and was moving west at 9 mph.
The storm’s projected track takes it hundreds of miles south of the main Hawaiian Islands - still classified as a tropical storm - when it approaches Thursday morning.
