James Cameron is lighting up the Internet by releasing footage from his upcoming film "Avatar" — but don't expect him to be glued to a computer screen, soaking up the online buzz.
The "Titanic" director has people for that.
"I've had it kind of broken down for me, what people are talking about," Cameron said yesterday.
The two-minute online trailer for the 3-D sci-fi epic, which debuted Thursday — and the unprecedented 16-minute previews shown in theaters worldwide yesterday — inspired steady traffic on Twitter and Facebook. But Cameron, a champion of 3-D technology and computer-generated effects in modern moviemaking, says he lacks certain social networking skills to take part.
"I don't even know how to Twitter," the 55-year-old filmmaker said yesterday. "I'm so unhip that it's tragic."
MICHAEL JACKSON'S FUNERAL POSTPONED
Michael Jackson won't be laid to rest on what would have been his 51st birthday after all.
A spokesman for the Jackson family says the funeral has been postponed until Sept. 3, five days after the singer's birthday.
Spokesman Ken Sunshine, in a statement yesterday, offered no reason for the delay.
Later yesterday, a judge approved a deal between Jackson's estate and concert promoter AEG Live to exhibit the King of Pop's memorabilia, over the objections of the singer's mother.
The three-city exhibit is expected to earn Jackson's estate up to $6 million. Promoters plan to open it around the Oct. 28 release of a film that shows the singer's final rehearsals for his comeback concerts.
Attorneys for his mother, Katherine Jackson, argued that the deal should have been competitively bid. They also said the estate should have a larger cut of the proceeds than the 50-50 split negotiated with AEG.
SCORSESE OUT OF THIS YEAR'S OSCAR RUN
Paramount Pictures has moved Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" from an October release date to February, which takes it out of awards consideration for this year.
The studio chairman said yesterday that the scheduling change was a financial decision.
The thriller is the latest pairing of Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio, following "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator" and Scorsese's Oscar-winning "The Departed."
Based on a novel, "Shutter Island" follows the investigation into the disappearance of a murderess from a mental institution.
RIMES QUESTIONED IN L.A. TRAFFIC CRASH
Grammy-winning country music star LeAnn Rimes was involved in a traffic collision in West Los Angeles, authorities said yesterday.
No one was injured and Rimes was not arrested, police said.
The 26-year-old singer was questioned by officers investigating the Thursday evening incident, police said, without providing any further details.
