31 arrested for DUI on Big Island last week
Big Island police arrested 31 motorists for drunk driving over the past week. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Four of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 883 DUI arrests compared with 895 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.3 percent. South Hilo and Kona topped the weekly arrests with 11 each.
There have been 1,020 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,170 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.8 percent.
There were 13 traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year compared with 16 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.8 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
