Former Hawai'i infielder Isaac Omura will join the Rainbows' coaching staff as a volunteer assistant, the school announced yesterday.

Omura played for the Rainbows from 2003 to 2005. The Mid-Pacific Institute alumnus will be working on completing his degree while coaching, a school press release said.

Omura was drafted and signed by the Oakland Athletics after his junior season at UH in 2005, when he enjoyed his best season at the plate, hitting .369 with six homers, 19 doubles and 47 RBI. In 2004, he had a perfect fielding percentage at second base, handling 200 total chances.

He replaces the volunteer/student coach position left vacant by the departure of Julian Russell.
