There will be a groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. today for the South Punaluu Stream bridge-replacement project.

The ceremony will be held makai of the South Punaluu Stream Bridge between Punaluu Valley Road and Green Valley Road at the northern tip of Punaluu Beach Park. The location is on the 53-350 block of Kamehameha Highway.
Lt. Gov. James “Duke” Aiona, state Transportation Director Brennon Morioka, Sen. Clayton Hee, Rep. Jessica Wooley and Hawaiian Dredging Construction President Bill Wilson will be on hand for the ceremony.
The $15.3 million project will replace the 83-year-old South Punaluu Stream Bridge with a new structure designed to meet current vehicular load, safety and seismic standards. Construction of the project will be 100 percent federally funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Hawaiian Dredging expects to begin work next month and complete it by September 2011.
