The Board of Education tonight approved requests from 84 public schools to modify bell schedules and cancel or replace staff planning and collaboration days with regular instructional days to make up for furloughs.

In all, the Board has approved requests from 184 schools that have sought the waivers to help mitigate the impact of lost classroom time.
"Once again, schools have stepped up to the plate to do everything in their power to ensure students receive as much class time as possible in the absence of adequate funding," said board Chairman Garrett Toguchi. "I commend administrators, teachers, students and parents for seeking these waivers during this challenging fiscal period."
