A 36-year-old Waipahu man who was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in the townbound lanes of the H-3 Freeway near the Harano Tunnel was speeding, police said.

The man was riding a Harley Davidson 1 1/2 miles west of the tunnel "at a high rate of speed" when he lost control at 12:56 p.m. Saturday, police said yesterday.

The motorcycle overturned and the man, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown onto the road.

The motorcycle then collided with a pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old Kailua man, who was not harmed.

The motorcyclist was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
