If you're in need of a creative gift idea, consider Hulo! — or Hooray! — a new game that challenges players to build Hawaiian vocabulary by creating a crossword-style puzzle. The game is for all ages and Hawaiian language levels.
Hulo! is reminiscent of the look and feel of old Hawaiian newspapers. Proceeds support efforts to digitize Hawaiian newspapers into word-searchable text files. The game is $12 at www.kamehamehapublishing.org and Nä Mea Hawai'i at Ward Warehouse — but it's on sale for $10 at the following events: Kealaokamalamalama Christmas Craft Fair, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Kealaokamalamalama Church, and at a Nä Mea Hawai'i sale, 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Ward Warehouse.
