Free combine, coaches clinic

The "Aloha Prep Bowl" high school football all-star doubleheader is offering a free football combine and coaches clinic Friday at Aloha Stadium.

Check-in for the combine will start at 3 p.m., followed by a recruiting session with national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming and the National Collegiate Scouting Service at 4 p.m., and on-field testing from 7 to 10 p.m.

A total of 350 slots are available — 250 for high school athletes and 100 for seventh- and eighth-graders.

All athletes need to confirm their attendance by filling out a registration form and sending it back to registration@footballuniversity.org by tomorrow. The registration form may be downloaded at www.AlohaPrepBowl.com.

In addition, a coaches clinic featuring three former NFL coaches will present three breakout sessions for 45 minutes on: "Coaching Defensive Backs," "Coaching Quarterbacks," and "Coaching Wide Receivers."

The clinic is open to youth and high school coaches. Space is limited to 50. E-mail confirmation may be sent to registration@footballuniversity.org by tomorrow.

The Aloha Bowl doubleheader, featuring the 19th Annual Hawai'i Union Builders Goodwill Senior Bowl and the Hawai'i/Polynesia vs. Mainland all-star game, will take place Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

SEARCH TO REPLACE AMEMIYA BEGINS

The search to replace outgoing Hawai'i High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya is officially underway, as the job opening has been posted on the HHSAA Web site.

Amemiya announced last month he will be stepping down at the end of the school year after 11 years at the helm.

Among the "duties without limitation" listed are:

"1. Planning, developing, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating all business operations of the HHSAA, including all state tournaments ...; 2. Administering the finances, generating timely reports, of the HHSAA's operations ... ; 3. Securing corporate sponsorships for state tournaments."

Among the education/general experience requirements listed are:

"Minimum of earned Bachelor's Degree ...; Training and experience in administration OR training and experience in sports/activity marketing and promotion; Understanding of, or involvement and experience with high school athletics; Understanding role of the HHSAA; Experience with the legal process at all levels; Prior positions of leadership."

The application postmark deadline is Dec. 28. Interviews will be conducted in February and March, with an anticipated start date in May.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL OPENINGS AT CASTLE

Castle is seeking a head coach for varsity and JV girls volleyball, athletic director Laynie Sueyasu said.

Cover letter and resumes will be accepted via fax (235-9124) or mail (Castle High School, attn: Athletic Director, 45-386 Kaneohe Bay Drive, 96744) until Dec. 18.

Applicants should have a minimum of two years high school coaching experience.
