Honolulu selects tourism-fund projects

Honolulu officials today announced a list of the projects that will receive a total of $350,000 from state tourism funds on O'ahu.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann released the list of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority's County Product Enrichment Program grant awards for 2010. The money goes to county governments to support events and projects that stimulate and diversify tourism.
Honolulu received 62 applications requesting a total of $1,714,254. Most of the awards were $5,000 to $10,000, although the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts received $25,000 to support the Honolulu Family Festival at Magic Island.
HAWAIIAN AIRLINES REDUCING FARES IN 2010
Hawaiian Airlines yesterday announced that it will reduce some of its Mainland fares by as much as 25 percent for flights starting in January.
Hawaiian said the low fares are good for travel between Jan. 5 and June 10 for flights between Hawai'i and the 10 U.S. cities that the airline serves.
The special fares must be purchased by Dec. 16 and don't apply to flights between March 12 and April 5. The discounts are not available on all seats and are subject to taxes and fees.
Examples of the discounted fares include roundtrip flights to Las Vegas for $418 and Los Angeles for $368.
Hawaiian Airlines also said it has reached a tentative labor agreement its clerical workers.
About 1,245 members of the clerical division of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers will get to vote on the tentative pact in the coming weeks, the airline said.
The contract covers employees in airport customer service, ramp, reservations, schedule planning, purchasing, records and crew scheduling positions at Hawaiian.
GASOLINE PRICES HOLD STEADY STATEWIDE
Statewide gasoline prices were unchanged in the latest week, coming in at an average of $3.36 for a gallon of regular.
Hawai'i's average price was eclipsed only by Alaska, which had an average price of $3.39, according to gasoline prices compiled for the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
AAA said Honolulu's price, at $3.24, was down one cent from a week before.
Hilo was unchanged at $3.42. Wailuku's average price rose 1 cent to $3.73.
The AAA report does not include prices for Kaua'i.
