SEATTLE — The suddenly swashbuckling Seattle Mariners have introduced new infielder and offensive catalyst Chone Figgins at a news conference.
The speedy Figgins agreed to a $36 million, four-year contract with Seattle, leaving AL West rival Los Angeles as a free agent.
Also, the Mariners are trying to complete a trade with Philadelphia for star pitcher Cliff Lee.
Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik (zur-REN’-sik) acknowledges fans are excited about the prospect of pairing Lee with young ace Felix Hernandez. But the GM declined comment on Lee talks.
Zduriencik did say Tuesday he’s not done trying to improve his team.
