The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team held practice today at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla., in preparation for tomorrow’s NCAA semifinal match against No. 1 Penn State.
The Rainbow Wahine did ESPN interviews and took head shots this morning, followed by a press conference.
After that, the Rainbow Wahine practiced for about an hour-and-a-half inside.
UH was the last team to practice. Texas practiced first, followed by Minnesota and then Penn State.
The two-time defending NCAA champion Nittany Lions are 36-0 this season and have won 100 consecutive matches.
Furthermore, Penn State’s coach — Russ Rose — needs one victory to reach a milestone 1,000 victories. Only two other women’s coaches have reached that plateau — UCLA’s Andy Banachowski and UH’s Dave Shoji.
“All I know is we’re in for a battle because of Russ, the way he prepares his team,” Shoji said. “They are relentless.”
The Rainbow Wahine are scheduled to play the Nittany Lions 4 p.m. Hawai‘i time.
The game will be telecast live on ESPN2 (channel 21, digital 224, high-definition 1224).
It will be the second game of the semifinals, following the Texas-Minnesota game that will start at 2 p.m.
