Water park plans early-evening fireworks

Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii will at 6 p.m. Thursday present what is expected to be the earliest among the larger New Year's Eve fireworks displays on Oahu.
Pyrotechnic artist: “Fireworks by Grucci,” which has produced prominent fireworks displays around the world for U.S. presidential inaugurations, Olympic Games and World Fairs. The event will be emceed by radio stations Krater 96 FM and Power 104.3.
During its second annual New Year's Eve party, the park in Kapolei will hold a clothing drive for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu. Guests donating new or used clothing or shoes, in good condition, will receive an admission for $19.99. Regular admission, $39.99 for adults.
The water park will be open to the public 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The park is inviting 200 volunteers and children from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu to take part in the day’s festivities.
There will be an ukulele competition for prizes including a new ukulele; motorcycle displays by Masonic Rider Motorcycle Club; and with live entertainment by Bruce Shimabukuro. Teens can dance into the evening at the Sweet Spot from 4–6 p.m. Also, there will be prize giveaways including a trip for two to Las Vegas.
In a news release, Takuya Ohki, Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii’s general manager, said: “We're proud to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu that works diligently throughout the year providing their friendship and guidance to Hawaii's youth.”
