$220,000 in grants go to mesothelioma research
A Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i scientist has received two grants totaling $220,000 to study mesothelioma.
Dr. Haining Yang is one of five recipients of a two-year, $100,000 grant from the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. Yang also received a two-year, $120,000 grant from the Hawai'i Community Foundation's Leahi Fund.
The grants will support her research, which involves studying ways to detect mesothelioma early.
Mesothelioma, a very aggressive form of cancer, causes about 2,500 deaths each year in the United States and is often associated with asbestos exposure.
