Economic downturn closes 2 more Hawaii restaurants

Advertiser Staff

Several more Honolulu restaurants have decided to call it quits amid a deepening economic downturn.

Nick's Fishmarket, a fixture in Waikiki for 40 years, and Brew Moon in Ward Centre are the latest casualties in a string of restaurant closures in recent months.

Nick's closed yesterday after serving its last meal Tuesday night, according to a desk clerk at the Waikiki Gateway Hotel where the restaurant is located. Calls to the restaurant went unanswered.

Similarly, Brew Moon closed abruptly on Tuesday after more than 10 years at the Ward Centre location. When restaurant opened in 1998 it was the first Hawaii location for the East Coast chain known for its handcrafted beers and eclectic menu.

The closings follow the shut down of Ciscos Cantina in Kailua last month and the closure of Compadres in Ward Centre last fall
