Fracture sidelines Bogut

Associated Press

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut will miss at least eight weeks with a stress fracture in his back.

The former No. 1 overall pick went through a series of tests earlier this week that revealed the injury. Bogut will need exercise and rest, but no surgery is scheduled.

Bogut's injury is another blow to the Bucks, who are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference but have already lost leading scorer Michael Redd to a season-ending knee injury.

Bogut is averaging 11.7 points and a team-high 10.3 rebounds, but started suffering back spasms after a game Dec. 17 against Philadelphia.

Hawks: All-Star guard Joe Johnson missed Atlanta's game last night against Minnesota because of illness, offsetting the return of Al Horford (bone bruise, right knee) from a 12-game absence.

Johnson missed the past two days of practice and did not make the trip to Minneapolis for the game against the Timberwolves. Hawks coach Mike Woodson said he hoped to have the team's leader in scoring, assists and minutes back for a game in Charlotte tomorrow.

Bobcats: Charlotte doesn't expect top scorer Gerald Wallace to return until sometime after this month's All-Star break as he recovers from a partially collapsed lung and broken rib.

Wallace was finally cleared to leave Los Angeles following his injuries against the Lakers on Jan. 27, but won't be cleared to fly until at least Feb. 11.

Coach Larry Brown said Wallace hasn't been able to do any physical activity and didn't expect him back for at least two weeks — and it could be much longer.
