LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Financially troubled Air Kaua'i had its two helicopters seized from Lihu'e Airport last week, and company officials couldn't be reached for comment on the company's future.
Air Kaua'i filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Nov. 7 and is scheduled for a hearing on its filing at 10:30 a.m. Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Honolulu.
At the airport, Air Kaua'i's cre- ditor, the Bank of Hawaii, "is ... auditing the company's assets and temporarily relocating them to another location off of the airport property," state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tammy Mori said.
Mori said six other helicopter tour companies operate out of Lihu'e Airport: Blue Hawaiian, with three helicopters; Island Helicopters, with two helicopters; Jack Harter, with three helicopters; Safari Helicopter, with two helicopters; Sunshine (Will Squyres) with two helicopters; and Mauna Loa with one helicopter.
Heli Tour Operators stopped operations from Lihu'e Airport in 2008, and Air Kaua'i stopped flying in January, Mori said.
