Broken truck overturns during push, killing man
A 61-year-old Kealakekua man died Wednesday of injuries when a truck he was in rolled into a ditch, police said.
The man was in the driver's seat of an inoperable 1987 Ford Ranger pickup truck, police said. A friend was helping push the truck from a driveway onto a county road when the truck rolled down Kealaola Street and into a ditch, police said.
The truck overturned, and the man was pinned inside. Police and firefighters responded to a 12:38 p.m. call. The man was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he died at 6:51 p.m.
He was not wearing a seat belt, police said. It was the fourth traffic death on the Big Island this year, the same number as last year at this time.
