Honolulu gambling operator Yong Sam Kim has been sentenced to three years in federal prison and forfeited more than $1 million in cash and property to the U.S. government.

Kim ran a casino gambling operation from 2003 to 2005 that grossed more than $3 million in revenues.

The prison sentence from U.S. District Judge Helen Gillmor was longer than called for under federal sentencing guidelines, but Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Brady asked for additional time because of the scope and severity of Kim's gambling operation.

Kim agreed to forfeit $629,800 seized by IRS agents and police from a safe deposit box rented by Kim, as well as $116,200 found in his Lunalilo Street apartment and $1,300 found in his car.

Kim also will forfeit the car, a 2004 Land Rover, as well as real estate he owned at 808 Sheridan St., 1308 Rycroft St. and 1320 Rycroft St.
