High surf advisory issued for east-facing shores

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect for the east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island.

Fresh to locally strong trade winds will continue to generate rough, short-period surf along exposed shores, the weather service said.

Surf is expected to reach 5 to 8 feet along the affected shores.

The high surf advisory will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Elsewhere on Oahu today, the National Weather Service surf forecast calls for surf of be 3 to 6 feet along the North Shore, increasing to 8 to 12 feet by this afternoon; 2 to 4 feet this morning, increasing to 4 to 8 feet this afternoon along west-facing shores; and 2 to 4 feet along south-facing shores.

Outlook through Saturday, Feb. 21: Rough and choppy wind waves along east-facing shores will gradually diminish through Tuesday.

A northwest swell will build Monday afternoon and continue into Wednesday, with peak surf heights on Tuesday approaching advisory levels on north facing shores.

Small north-northeast swells will persist through most of the week, possibly getting larger late in the week. A small northwest swell is expected Wednesday night through Saturday.
