High surf advisory remains in effect through 4 p.m.

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service will remain in effect for the north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui and the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai until 4 p.m. today.

A storm near the central Aleutian Islands several days ago generated a northwest swell which is rolling up on Hawaii shores at present.

Surf of 10 to 15 feet is expected through this afternoon along the north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai.

Elsewhere on Oahu today, look for surf of 4 to 7 feet along east-facing shores and 2 to 4 feet, with occasionally higher sets, along south-facing shores.

Outlook through Sunday, Feb. 22: The northwest swell will gradually diminish tonight and Wednesday.

The wind waves along east facing shores will slowly diminish during the next few days, but a small short-period north-northeast swell will gradually build. This north-northeast swell is expected to become rather large by this weekend. Small northwest swells are expected from Wednesday night through Sunday.
