The daughter of the man who died after participating in yesterday's Hawaiian Telcom Great Aloha Run said today her father was a dedicated runner.

"It was a complete shock," Lisa Tanikawa said. "He didn't have any heart problems. He used to go running six days a week."

Scott Tanikawa, 58, was identified earlier today as the man who was found unconscious in the Aloha Stadium parking lot, where the 8.15-mile event ended.

An autopsy was scheduled for this morning.

It was the first fatality in the 25-year history of the Great Aloha Run.

A "medical spotter" from a sports medicine clinic set up in the stadium by Kaiser Permanente saw Tanikawa sitting but slumped over next to a women's bathroom, near the Anuenue snack stand and in front of parking section 2A.

Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation was performed. Tanikawa was taken to Pali Momi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
