Great Aloha Run novices Lindberg, Elmore victorious

First-time runners in the event, Honolulu's Brian Lindberg and Malindi Elmore, were the top male and female finishers yesterday in the 25th Great Aloha Run.
Lindberg, 27, won the elite runners competition in 42 minutes and 21 seconds.
Elmore, 46, of Calgary, Alberta, won in 46:46.
The 8.15-mile run took runners from Aloha Tower in downtown Honolulu to Aloha Stadium in Halawa.
The first-place finishers in each division win $1,000, followed by $500 for second place and $250 for third.
The top military runners were Steve Slaby, a Navy sailor from 'Aiea, with a time of 42:41, and Army soldier Kelly Calway, of Mililani, who finished in 51:15 to win the military women's division.
Peter Hershon of Honolulu won the men's handcycle race in 50:52.
