Special law for Superferry may be extended

The Hawaii Superferry may get another special law.
A measure scheduled to be heard today will extend a previous law that allowed the Superferry to continue operations while an environmental study is conducted.
The original law expires 45 business days after the end of the Legislature's 2009 session May 7. This new measure would extend the deadline until June 2010.
Gov. Linda Lingle's administration has said an extension would give lawmakers more time to review the environmental impact statement and public comments. The final statement is scheduled for publication June 30.
The Superferry resumed service between Oahu and Maui yesterday following two weeks of routine maintenance.
