Baseball: Japan defeats Yomiuri in WBC tuneup

MIYAZAKI, Japan — Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners went 0-for-3 Saturday in Japan's 10-0 win over the Yomiuri Giants in the national team's first tuneup for the World Baseball Classic.
Suzuki was replaced in the fifth inning. Designated hitter Atsunori Inaba hit a three-run homer in the first inning to spark the offense.
Japan, led by Yomiuri manager Tatsunori Hara, will begin defense of its WBC title when the tournament begins on March 5 at the Tokyo Dome.
Japan is in Group A with South Korea, Taiwan and China. The top two teams advance to the second round of the 16-nation tournament which will be played in the United States, along with the final on March 23 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
