MARSEILLE, France — Jo-Wilfried Tsonga upset No. 3 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6 (1) today to reach the final of the Open 13.
Tsong will face Michael Llodra in Sunday's final. Llodra defeated Gilles Simon 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the other semifinal.
The 12th-ranked Tsonga took a 5-0 lead in the tiebreaker and had two forehand winners to clinch the match against Djokovic.
Tsonga made the most of his chances in the first set, converting his only break point at 3-3 when a backhand approach shot from Djokovic caught the tape.
Djokovic wasted five break points in the first set, including three at 0-40 when Tsonga served for the set. Tsonga used three powerful serves to save the three break points, then had an ace and won the set when Djokovic's return sailed long.
Tsonga, who won the Johannesburg title two weeks ago, leads Djokovic 4-1 in career meetings.
The 50th-ranked Llodra broke Simon twice in the second set.
"I played well on the key points, and especially in the tiebreak," Llodra said. "I was very solid today on my serve."
