Sufi mysticism in music, poems, stories, images
| |||
Turkish Sufi mystic Latif Bolat will present music, poetry, stories and images of ancient Turkey tonight at the Unity Church of Hawaii.
Bolat plays Turkish folk ballads and ecstatic devotional songs from the 12th-century Anatolian mystics and recites 13th-century poetry.
These Sufi traditions offered comfort to the people of the Middle East after the horror of the Crusades and Genghis Khan. Bolat draws on ancient texts and uses traditional instruments.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the church, 3608 Diamond Head Circle. Tickets are $12 to $15. For more information, call 732-7717.
