High surf advisories still posted on all islands

Advertiser Staff

High surf advisories, issued by the National Weather Service, remain in place for the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, as well as the north-facing shores of Maui and east-facing shores of all islands.

Surf along north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui will be 12 to 16 feet this morning before decreasing to 10 to 14 feet this afternoon, the weather service said.

Surf along west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai will be 8 to 12 feet this morning before lowering to 7 to 9 feet this afternoon.

Surf along east-facing shores will remain at 6 to 8 feet today.

The high surf advisories are expected to remain in place through 6 p.m. today.

Large and rough surf will likely continue through the weekend due to a combination of a short-period northeast swell and rough seas generated by strong northeasterly trade winds.

A long-period northwest swell will maintain surf near the advisory level across north- and west-facing shores of most smaller islands this morning before declining some this afternoon.

Elsewhere on Oahu, look for surf of 1 to 3 feet along south-facing shores.
