Landon Hernandez's one-out, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth rallied Hawai'i to a 3-2 win against Washington in the opening game of the Dariy Queen Classic today at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Kevin Macdonald led off with a single to center and took second on Christian Johnson's sacrifice to chase the left-handed Ben Guidos for the right-hander Aaron West to face the right-handed hitting Landon Hernandez. A wild pitch moved Macdonald to third to make the count 1-1. Hernandez then hit a 1-2 pitch to center to drive home Macdonald.

Harrison Kuroda (1-0) allowed a hit in two scoreless innings of relief for the Rainbows (3-3). Guidos (0-1) gave up two runs and three hits with three strikeouts for the Huskies (2-3).

Hawai'i starter Nate Klein allowed two solo home runs among six hits and walked one with eight strikeouts in seven innings, while Washington starter Jorden Merry gave up an unearned run, two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings for UW

The visiting Huskies didn't take long to get on the board, when Pierce Rankin drilled a 2-1 pitch for a solo home run off Klein with one out in the top of the first inning.

But the Rainbows tied it in the bottom of the first. Kolten Wong led off with a single to center, stole second and went to third when Greg Garcia grounded out to first. After Vinnie Catricala popped out to second, Jeff Van Doornum reached on shortstop David Bentrott's throwing error that allowed Wong to score to tie the game at 1.

Washington regained the lead in the third. David Bentrott led off with a solo homer to left to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

The Huskies pulled starter Merry after five with left-hander Ben Guidos starting the sixth. The Rainbows responded by tying the game at 2 when Kevin Macdonald homered to left with two outs.
