A fire at a Lanikai house was under control in a matter of minutes this afternoon, thanks to a bit of luck and the quick arrival of firefighters.

The owner of the home at 1211 Mokulua Drive had called her insurance company because of flickering lights after a tree fell earlier in the week and took down electrical wires.

An electrician sent by the insurance company has just arrived at the home when he noticed smoke coming from an area where lines from a utility pole connected to the home's meter box.

Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the electrician called 911 and began fighting the fire with a small extinguisher.

The fire had spread to the eaves of the house by the time firefighters arrived, but Seelig said they were able to get the blaze under control in a matter of minutes.

Red Cross assistance wasn't necessary, Seelig said.

He didn't know how much damage there was to the structure.
