Reserve soldier, 46, dies after collapsing on track
A 46-year-old Army Reserve soldier with the 9th Mission Support Command died Tuesday morning after collapsing on the Fort Shafter Flats physical fitness track, the Army said yesterday.
Sgt. 1st Class Scott Herbert Lape, of the 4960th Multi-Functional Training Brigade, was pronounced dead at Tripler Army Medical Center, the Army said.
Lape fell to the ground after completing a two-lap run on the track with two other soldiers. The two soldiers gave Lape cardiopulmonary resuscitation until emergency medical technicians arrived.
Lape lived in Mililani and was a combat veteran with 15 years of active duty service, serving in operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, the Army said.
He was a senior instructor in the 4960th Multi-Functional Training Brigade. He also worked as a sports specialist at the Honolulu Federal Detention Center. He is survived by a daughter in Georgia.
