Honolulu's Heimana Reynolds, 10, took second in two events last week in the King of the Groms nationals, a world championships for skateboarders 12 and under at the 3rd Lair Skateboard Park at Golden Valley, Minn.
The Punahou School fifth-grader is the first youth skateboarder from Hawai'i to qualify for the event. He did so by finishing among the top competitors at a national event in Simi Valley, Calif.
At the Minnesota event, Reynolds was one of 125 skateboarders from around the country and one of the few who competed in all three disciplines of skateboarding — bowl, mini-ramp and street.
After moving through the semifinals, Reynolds competed in the finals in all three events Sunday. He finished second in the bowl and mini-ramp and seventh in the street.
