At Hawaii's MomsLikeMe.com's picnic Nov. 16 in Nu'uanu, about 30 moms and their keiki and significant others made friends, caught up with old ones and shared a potluck lunch.

Motherhood, especially when you are a brand-new parent, can sometimes feel a little lonely. But thanks to Hawaii's MomsLikeMe.com, it doesn't have to.

On the Advertiser Web site, thousands of Hawai'i moms are not only making friends online and lending each other support and advice, but also organizing social events — playdates, family picnics, and excursions to attractions such as the zoo and aquarium, as well as moms-only events, such as spa visits and movie nights.

Upcoming events include a moms-and-families potluck picnic, and a moms-only karaoke night. You can help decide on the dates and locations by joining the discussion on the Web site.

The women on MomsLikeMe.com are also putting together a group to do the Great Aloha Run on Feb. 16.

To stay on top of the Hawaii's MomsLikeMe.com social events, see the "Mommy Meet-Ups" group (featured on the site's home page). Individual groups within the Web site also organize their own events; just click on the Groups tab at the top of any page.

Why attend the moms' events? What can you expect if you go?

In the words of some of the moms who attended a Hawaii's MomsLikeMe.com picnic Nov. 16 in Nu'uanu: "Yesterday was sooo nice," one mom who calls herself BAAM on the Web site wrote the day after the gathering. "Food was good, company was good, and the kids had a blast! ... It was great to finally meet some new moms that have signed up, and it's always great to see the 'long-timers.' "

Another mom who goes by the screen name Wantonemore said of the Nov. 16 picnic: "I just wanted to thank all of you ladies for a great time. The girls and I had a ball. ... The oldest is asking me when are we going to see our friends again."
