Disaster Recovery Centers open Saturday for Oahu storm victims

HONOLULU — Disaster Recovery Centers will open this Saturday in various communities around Oahu to provide assistance to Oahu residents who suffered damage from the severe storms and flooding that occurred Dec. 10-16.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Hawaii State Civil Defense will operate the Recovery Centers.

The centers will be open at four locations, six days a week, until further notice. Hours will be noon to 8 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Representatives from the Small Business Administration also will be on hand to help business owners.

The centers will not be open on Sundays, but will be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 19.

Locations are:

• HALEIWA - Waialua Community Association (Historic Haleiwa Gym),

66-434 Kamehameha Highway

• LAIE - Laie Shopping Center,

55-510 Kamehameha Highway

• WAIANAE - Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center,

86-620 Farrington Highway

• WAIPAHU - Filipino Community Center,

94-428 Mokuola Street

Homeowners, renters and businesses are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until further notice.
