HIGH WINDS THREATEN ISLANDS
List of Friday school closings keeps growing

All public schools in Hawai'i except those on the Big Island will be closed tomorrow because of the threat of high winds, the Department of Education announced today. The University of Hawai'i said all campuses would be closed except those on the Big Island. Many private schools will also close.

UH said that only essential workers should report to the closed campuses.

The superintendent of Hawaii Catholic schools advised all school leaders to cancel classes. Saint Louis School, Sacred Hearts Academy, Maryknoll School and Damien Memorial School were among those that announced cancellation of classes tomorrow.

At least some schools are also canceling sports activities.

Also closed will be:

  • Calvary by the Sea Montessori School;

  • The Children's House in Pearl City;

  • Hanalani School in Mililani;

  • Hongwanji Mission School;

  • Honolulu Waldorf School in Niu Valley;

  • 'Iolani School;

  • Island Pacific Academy in Kapolei;

  • Kamehameha Schools Oahu and Maui campuses, and all Kamehameha preschools except on the Big Island;

  • All seven KCAA Preschools on O'ahu;

  • Le Jardin Academy in Kailua;

  • Mid-Pacific Institute;

  • Mo'ili'ili Hongwanji Preschool;

  • Punahou School;

  • St. Anthony Schools on Maui;

  • St. Francis School;

    Also, all O'ahu public charter schools will be closed, in addition to the Kawaikini and Ke Kula Niihau o Kekaha charter schools on Kaua'i and the Kua o ka La charter school on the Big Island.

    Regular public schools on the Big Island will be open, the DOE said.
