Combining all the skills and elements that embody cheerleading competition and deftly executing them with precision, spirit and passion, Kamehameha senior Savannah Wolfe was named 2008 State Player of the Year after a recent vote of coaches, judges and officials.
Wolfe, a captain who anchored the back position, helped Kamehameha win its ninth straight Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship and repeat as large division state champ with its fifth crown in six years.
She is joined by four other Warriors on the All-State first team: Ashley Murakami (senior flyer), Brianna Burnett (sophomore flyer), Chelsea Bega (junior base) and Rachel Joaquin (sophomore back).
Radford, which won its third consecutive O'ahu Interscholastic Association championship and fourth straight medium division state title, placed four on the All-State first team: junior flyers Malyssa Barbasa and Tiana Paling, senior base Marrissa Kaili-Frank and sophomore base Landance McBrayer.
Kamehameha-Hawai'i, which took second at the medium division state championships for its highest finish to date, placed senior base Kiana Weaver and junior back Chloe Kaeo on the first team.
Baldwin's Gillian Platt (senior base), Moanalua's Rachael Ostovich (senior base) and Waimea's Nelson Acosta (junior back) round out the first team.
Kamehameha's Melissa Beimes and Radford's Bo Frank were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
The Warriors maintained their status as a premier program despite the departure of longtime coach Dolly Wong and assistant Giselle Kim.
Radford remained the team to beat in the OIA and in the state medium division while also tending to sideline cheer duties into December as the Rams football team advanced to the Division II state championship game.
